las Tortugas, Playa Ostional, Costa Rica

Today we took a gorgeous drive through lush forest and green pastures, over rivers and along rocky roads to see a magical event. The Olive Ridley sea turtles come back in droves to lay their eggs on the same beach they were born on and today we were there to watch.

It was pretty amazing watching as the turtles emerged from the ocean and slowly heaved themselves onto the sand. The determined ladies crawled up the beach and found a good spot, sometimes unfortunately where another mother had already laid her eggs, and began digging their nest.

The boys wandered around from turtle to turtle watching as each was in a different phase of the process.

Noah was so happy, half skipping half running to the turtles and investigating. Shmitty and Haile took their time and explored the beach a little in between watching the turtles. Ted took full advantage of our friendly, knowledgable guide Zach, and I think he learned the most on this trip.

I think we all agree that the experience was literally wonderful. Today was a perfect day
